The film tells the story of Joanna Stayton, who falls off her yacht and suffers amnesia. Grant, who is looking for an easy way to get rid of his demanding wife, is desperate to find someone who will give him a break from his controlling and demanding wife. Meanwhile, Dean, a widowed carpenter with four kids, claims to be Joanna's husband. When Joanna cannot remember her identity, she struggles to believe that she is ever meant to be a working-class mother.
As the title suggests, the Overboard crew carries cutlasses and makes raids. Unfortunately, their treasure is often stolen by disgruntled shipmates and more able pirates. Overboard's captain, on the other hand, has a terrible track record when it comes to investing in his pension fund. Instead of readjusting his failed investment strategy, he just dumps the cash down the toilet. The resulting financial mess is so unappealing that it's impossible to stop watching the Overboard crew.
The new version of Overboard has been met with mixed reviews from critics. The movie was released in May 2018 and was met with mostly negative reviews. However, there were also some positive reviews, too. In the New York Times, Alex Oleksinski wrote a review that titled the film "a pointless remake." Esme Douglas panned the movie as a nominee for the Teen Choice Awards. While she found it a good movie, she also thought the cast was good.
